Espero que esta imagen te ayude a entenderlo, es un diagrama de rayos de la luz que pasa cerca de una lente gravitacional. En el esquema se forman 2 imagenes porque es un dibujo en 2D y porque se supone que el campo gravitatorio de la galaxia que actúa como lente es homogéneo, pero en 3D y con campos inhomogéneos las imágenes que se forman son mucho más complicadas. Buscando en google puedes encontrar cientos de ejemplos.
